Where is the Spanish Property Market Heading?

8 May, 2019

My wife and I bought our first property in Spain in 1995 and have seen the effects of the “Crash” that affected Spain – property prices dropping by up to 40%          Mortgages changing weekly from 100% of valuation to 60% of valuation and then the links to Corruption and illegal building. That was a nightmare.

However, the Spanish Government acted positively against all those in granting illegal Licenses, the Banks are no longer giving out foolish Mortgages based upon overinflated valuations and Confidence has come back to the Costa del Sol as can now be seen by the new Building that commenced from 2016 – followed by a gradual but positive increase in the price of properties as can be shown below.

Spanish Housing Market 2008 - 2019

In Spain, Housing Index is measured by the house prices per square meter. This page provides the latest reported value for - Spain House Prices - plus previous releases, historical high and low, short-term forecast and long-term prediction, economic calendar, survey consensus and news. Spain House Prices - actual data, historical chart and calendar of releases - was last updated in May of 2019.

From 2008 – 2014 The Market declined due to the Economic crisis that faced not only the Local problems of Spain – illegal building (which now has been thoroughly rectified ) but also those of the International Banking Sector.

As can be seen from the graphs below the Spanish Property Market is now showing healthy growth since 2015/2016 to the present 2019, which certainly appears to be continuing.
