The best things to do in San Pedro de Alcantara

San Pedro de Alcantara has evolved into one of the most stunning seaside destinations on the Costa del Sol with a wide choice of attractions and activities for all ages.

Located just 10km west of Marbella, this charming yet upmarket resort is just a few minutes away from the breath-taking Sierra de Ronda mountain range and 20km east of Estepona.

The town was born around the late 1800s and was an agricultural farming community, famous for its sugar cane.

San Pedro has become increasingly popular in the past few years with holidaymakers and ex-pats who come to buy holiday homes and permanent residences here.

The beauty of San Pedro is that although it offers a host of modern facilities and beautiful beaches, it still manages to retain its original charm – especially in the old part of town.

A main road divides the area; on one side is the old quarter with its narrow cobbled streets and tiny local stores, and on the beach side are new residential developments, long stretches of beach and a charming promenade, which is lined with a choice of excellent restaurants.

Try Bora-Bora Beach Club which is known for its traditional and innovative cuisine with many seafood specialities for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Sports fans can play 18 holes of golf at the award-winning Real Club de Golf, Guadalmina or visit the Club de Padel Nueva Alcantara for quality tennis and paddle courts.

Cable-ski Marbella is set on a huge natural lake in Guadalmina, at the western end of San Pedro and is ideal for novices and experts. The long, sandy beach at Guadalmina is also worth a visit if you are looking for a luxurious resort.

Happy Days Costa del Sol is a great place to keep the kids happy and includes dry ice skating, a 9-hole crazy golf course and American-style food all under one roof.

The vibrant old town offers a laid back vibe with a choice of quirky shops to explore and some excellent tapas bars, serving typical Andalucian cuisine.

San Pedro de Alcantara has its own historical heritage and stunning monuments. If you want to find out more about the old village and the history of the surrounding area then you should take a trip to the Paleochristian Basilica Church and the 3rd century Las Bovedas Roman Baths.

San Pedro boasts a sub-tropical Mediterranean climate and an average of 320 days a year sunshine. Hot summers and mild winters attract sun-seekers and sports fans from all over northern Europe and beyond. Although cooling sea breezes make the summer heat manageable, average July/August temperatures are still 33 ºC.
