Puerto Duquesa is situated on the western end of the Costa del Sol within the municipality of Manilva, and offers visitors a wide choice of attractions.
Five of the best restaurants in the Port, serving everything from curry to pizza and fish and chips include: the Mini India Restaurant, La Traviata Duquesa, Marlows Fish and Chip Restaurant and Parapiro’s Ristorante. If you have a sweet tooth, the best place to go is the Heladeria Da Vinci, with real Italian ice cream.
Duquesa Port has 330 berths and is one of the most popular places for people to visit on the Costa del Sol. Duquesa offers a choice of properties for sale, including new developments, townhouses, apartments and villas. Visitors can enjoy an average of 325 days of sunshine a year.
During the summer months there is a quaint street market along the waterside offering all manner of local goods. The harbour side is closed to normal traffic making it a safer area for children, and Duquesa is still a working fishing port.
Duquesa may not be as big or famous as its illustrious neighbour, Puerto Banus, but it has plenty of attributes. Enjoy water sports facilities on the local beaches, including scuba diving, kite surfing, pedalos and water skiing. Some of the most beautiful, unspoilt beaches in Andalucia stretch to the east and west of the marina, and sun beds and parasols can be hired for a reasonable price.
Golf enthusiasts are spoilt for choice at this end of the Costa del Sol, and the improved Duquesa course is one of the best in Andalucia. Also, Sotogrande and the famous Valderrama course is only 15 minutes away by car. The Volvo Masters is held here every October/November, and tickets can be booked online.
With families in mind, the award-winning Selwo Wildlife Park is situated just a few kilometres east of Estepona town, and can be easily reached by car. Boasting over 2,000 semi-free animals, and 200 species, this is a wonderland for children and adults alike. The animals are well cared for and enjoy roaming around in over 100 hectares of semi-natural environment. Just over the ravine, where the zebras and camels live, open safari trucks operate in two directions around the park, and most of the larger animals can be seen from here. Brown bears, tigers, lions, elephants and giraffes can all be viewed at a comfortable distance, and there are also plenty of smaller species to see – the meerkats being a particular favourite. A café and restaurant facilities are also situated throughout the park.
Often referred to as the ‘quieter end of the Costa del Sol’, Duquesa combines modern amenities with traditional Spanish charm. Although the area around the Port has been developed, Duquesa and its surrounding area still offers tranquillity and a laid back atmosphere you don’t find in all the seaside resorts.
